Crystals

The ‘Crystal’ rented apartment and hotel complex was a high-density project whose master plan was developed according to a cellular automata system which incrementally applies the set rules through organic development of the built masses.
The whole development floats on a ‘green horizon’, a canopy made of suspended climbing plants that shade the ground-floor area of the plot.
To determine the most efficient built mass, an automated cellular growth programme governed by actual architectural rules, was run to rapidly create numerous iterations of the master plan. Adjusting parameters permitted control of the process and lead to the optimal solution. The algorithm used guaranteed the respect of setbacks, facing conditions and visual continuity, using them in the domino fashion growth of a solution.
