A master planning and landscaping proposal for the touristic development of the Al Soudah area. The proposal tells the story of three sites, each with its distinct topography and territorial qualities.
Al Soudah
Based on Cliff and Cloud phenomena in Al Soudah, we proposed a board walk strip that serpents along the cliff’s edge, letting visitors stroll from one activity to another, a boulevard that is the bold, graphic and colourful high paced recreational part of the festival ground, thrilling sky jetties that project one into the landscape, and the cloud sign and mist fountain that are lit with various colours depending on the events, symbolizing the new Al Soudah.
Rijal Almaa
Based on the flower and land art concepts, we proposed for Rijal Almaa a running ribbon that flies around the city and guides the visitor while creating a mesmerizing graphic design in the old town, a flower scene, that is a bold, graphic and colourful, the flower-shaped icon for the festival, an outdoor cinema screen that is inflatable, easy to install and remove, and cultural amenities with stands, pergolas, market apparels, with the UBIC structures gently nesting in the old city.
Bani Mazen
For extra accommodations, we proposed three original typologies of lightweight habitats that we have designed and prototyped: UBIC, a modular pre-fabricated system that can respond to any program, UBIC GEODE, an economic, sturdy geodesic habitat that can be installed rapidly and provide a great user experience, and FUSION TENT, a new and experimental system based on 3D printed recycled plastic and traditional goat hair wool fabrics.
