TOD, The Obsessive Drafter

The ObsessiveDrafter is a tech-art installation that questions both creation and representation. It is a large mobile robotic arm made of 3D Printed parts, aluminum tubes, stepper motors, drives, controllers, graphit pitt that draws live portraits on walls. TheObsessiveDrafter is fully designed, programmed and manufactured by Guillaume Crédoz, Nareg Karaoghlanian and Chady Karlitch.

Every part was 3D Printed to create a unique assembly that can draw large murals on walls. It is autonomous and has the ability to feel human presence, establish eye contact, and draw live a portrait of the person facing it. The machine will draw a large mural (7x3m) for 5 continuous days during Design Days Dubai 2014. Every time a human interrupts the machine, TheObsessiveDrafter will pause its large artwork, establish eye contact, then draw him/her before it continues its fresco work. The imposed pauses during the main work are putting it at risk of lacking time to be finished. The machine groans while interrupted to express the disturbance.
