Chateau de Chambord, 3D survey and research

Bits to Atoms has been commissioned to rebuild a complete virtual clone of the dungeon of Chateau de Chambord. This includes a close survey and reconstruction of the carpentry. A virtual model will preserve all the needed information if needed, in case of a fire like recently in Notre Dame de Paris. As the model needs to be light, no 3D scanning is possible (with the difficult access it wouldn’t be a solution anyway), so after a patient survey that relies a lot on our knowledge of carpentry structure, we are redrawing every element of those masterpieces from 1531. Always fascinating to take the same logic paths as the makers 500 years ago, because wood is still wood and gravity: gravity.
