Beirut Makers
Since the rise Industrial Age, designers and craftspersons have been separated, as the efficiency for high output demanded this rationalisation between creation and manufacturing. The recent digital revolution, however, is putting design and fabrication back together, with a new generation of makers fully developing designs that numerically-controlled machines can execute. These digitally machines are allowing makers to explore and experiment with new ways of utilizing them. We believe this is the start of a post-industrial crafts age. BeirutMakers collective is locally spearheading this shift in design history by exploring the vast potential of digital fabrication.
With a collective approach and a research-oriented methodology, BeirutMakers have mapped wood processes and forged new ways of creating digitally-crafted, wooden objects for this exhibition. It features objects made using parametric design and manufacturing, 7-axis robots, 3D scanning, wood bending, laser cutting, CNC milling, and more.
