Twisted Planes

Those experimental designs are based on the rare find of a naturally twisted log of plane tree in the river of Baskinta (Lebanon) after a storm.
In order to follow the twisted wood grain, a simple 3D of a twisted hexagonal prism as been modeled.
Using this single 3D model and only variations in the machining code, many different iterations of the same 3D design have been made.
Every single pot is unique, by its grain, its diameter (along the narrowing trunk) and its machining code.
The pots are machined by a 10 tons 7 axis robot arm coming from the automotive industry. Its complex coding decides its moves along the part therefore its cutting.
In this post-industrial set up, the crafts of the makers are gaining control over new machines thanks to digital tools, sketching a new woodworking that hybrids traditional knowledge and top of the edge manufacturing means.
